Daydream Island

We stayed on Daydream Island for three nights in August, 2007.

We had an Ocean Balcony Room, which was pleasant, with a lovely sea view. However, the bathroom did not have good ventilation, and was mouldy, even with the ceiling fan on non-stop; - the tiles on the floor needed a good scrub.

Besides this, the room was fine, although I can't understand how it has been given a four and a half star rating.

We had one meal at the Fishbowl Tavern, which was 'pub-style' - couldn't get a seat, despite the efforts of the waitresses, who were really trying. The food was average.

The next two nights we ate at Mermaids, which was very good and a pleasant atmosphere.

The facilities at Daydream are excellent. So many pools to ponder which to swim in. Very good for couples with young children. The daily fish feeding was great for the children - and adults.

We went to the fish-feeding at Lover's Cove one day and snorkelled at the same time. This is on a fringing reef. The fish and coral were very good - with the fish being very tame - and obviously waiting for their 'feed'.

On the downside, room service did not appear until nearly 5pm to clean our room and we were totally 'forgotten' by the mini-bar people during our stay.

Despite this, we enjoyed our stay at Daydream. A bit commercialised, but still pleasant. Would be good for people with young children, rather than those seeking a romantic getaway.

Overall, a very pleasant stay!

Hi

We just got back from daydream island as well on Feb 08 after our night stay. We were very disappointed by the service they provided for a supposed 4.5 star resort and spa.

Although we went out of the 'peak' season we found it very limiting during meal times as only one eatery was open on some nights and there wasn’t much choice. After 2pm we found that there were no places we can go an have lunch/ snack at until the evening.

The food was absolutely disgusting and unhygienic with ants all over the 'al a carte' dinning room floor. As a result we both got a virus - gastroenteritis and would NEVER go back to this island or recommend it to anyone.

It's a great spot to drop in for a beer following a day of fishing - great pool and cold beer. But it's so small it would drive me up the wall.

Maybe they got their four and a half star rating just after renovations... which happened years ago.

I don't mind the place for a day trip.. or when we go sailing by Sunlovers Beach and need to drop in for a drink!

I also second the average meals served at the Fishbowl Tavern, it is worthwhile paying that little bit extra for Mermaids.

Sailbabe they have been 4.5 since at least 1995 which is well and truly pre renovation. IMHO it struggled then to be even close... the week we were there it had endenic gastro which lasted for at least 3 months..9 we had frined go in sept, we went oct and others went nov.

stars are based on facilities not on quality of rooms etc. that is a world wide rating system.

I laugh at the way SUN lovers has become lovers!!! For people with young kids and as a first visit to the Whits for an island it is good...if you are fussy and want high class est then look elsewhere

We're going there end of Nov with two young kids under 5. It's our first time to Whitsundays. After a few review of Daydream Island Resort. It looks like it's a choice for us ... but concern about the food and my elder one got severe food allergy to dairy, soy, egg, nuts & seafood ... I'm wondering if there is anything for him to eat; otherwise, I have to pack his every meal which I really don't want to ... for a so call HOLIDAY!

Also, we're going in Nov - one of the hottest month? Will the weather too hot for young kids (my younger one is not even one and a half?!)

Worse come to worse, we may have to cancel the trip!

Any thoughts or any hints for us? Thanks.
