RE: accommodation help needed please :)

Hi TA, I am new to this and haven't really been away much and a bit overwhelmed as to were to stay in port douglas or palm cover- open to suggestions on this. 2 girls looking for a bliss relaxing with a bit of sightseeing holiday that is long overdue. Can you lovely TA guys please help with advise on a nice resort or a villa (superior kind of room or private with pool etc) Looking at going on the 2-9th of november 2013 and don't want to hire a car. Happy and would prefer to pay $300 and under but would be happy to review. Thanks Heaps in advance for your help :)

Location wise you would be smartest to stay somewhere close to the centre of Port Douglas for convenience, that is either on Macrossan Street or close to it. Nevertheless there are some really nice resorts a bit out of town (shame you won't have a car) and there are shuttle buses that run between them and the centre of town. I stayed at Sea Temple Port Douglas recently and thought the central feature pool and spa were pretty good. Not sure if they are still offering the prices I paid which made it pretty good value ($150 a night Queen Room with big spa inside). Up to $300 a night you should get some very nice places, especially as you will be going in a more off-peak season. Check out some of the usual booking sites for some initial ideas:

Look at Mandaly and Shalimar.

Avoid Sheraton it is used frequently by conferences. It does have the advantage of being beachfront but it is well out of town.

I can't make a personal recc on this but someone mentioned it to me yesterday to try next time we are up north theboutiquecollection.com.au/solona-on-the-b…

Not sure that port Douglas without a car is the place to be. We have just come back from there and nothing much to see in the very small town apart from a few shops and restaurants. We walked round it in a morning.

The tourist trips we thought were expensive so hope you have either lots of spending money or a few good books.

Whichever you choose have a good holiday.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the late response. Thank you so much for your honest advise regarding Port Douglas. After lots of reading of reviews and trying to find availability at a nice place in Port Douglas we decided to go to the Gold coast instead. Got a great affordable package, staying at the Sheraton hotel for 7 nights. Reviews are positive and haven't been before so looking forward to some time in the sun by the pool and being out and about.

Thanks again

Best Regards

Susan :)

Wow, such a change of location. Strange to think that the choice was was between Gold Coast and Port Douglas. These two places are no way similar. Gold Coast is all commercial and concrete, noise and people, while Port Douglas is Reef and Rainforest. Sure know where I would prefer to holiday.
