Travelling with a baby

Hi, we will be staying in Port Douglas with our 5 month old baby in December. Can anyone recommend an apartment? We obviously need a microwave for sterilising and a kettle aswell as a cot!!

Most of the apartments in Port Douglas will have a microwave and kettle. Check the tripadvisor reviews section for an apartment that would suit you (location etc). If details for a cot aren't on their website, call the manager to ask (or email them). At the same time, I would recommend checking with the apartment managers for their policies on babies/children as some places don't allow kids.

Not sure of your budget but we stayed at verandahs a couple of years ago. Nice apartment and close to main street.

Hi Britney,

Most apartment/ resorts will accept babies/children unless they specify that they cater for adults (15 years and over) only. They should all be able to provide you with a cot, although it will be a nightly charge.

It's difficult to advise a property without knowing your budget and also if you're travelling beginning or late December. You'll find that the rates will be higher late December due to school holidays and Christmas.

Best to start looking at the tourism website and see what accommodation is available, the location, prices and go from there.

yep we stayed at Verandahs as well. it was outstanding for a baby. Sue and the team were so friendly and went out of their way to get us floating tubes for our 8mth old who loved the mini waterfall and saltwater pool (no chlorine is a big bonus). If you book early and direct you'll probably get a better price and apartment on the Maccrossan Street side of the complex - they have two blocks of apartments seperated by the pool.

Ben, you might also be interested to know that the most common compound of chlorine is sodium chloride (salt)
