Cairns 'nasties' in Jan

I am planning a trip to Cairns/Port Douglas in Jan and know this isnt the best time to visit but want to know if the 'nasties' namely mozzies/ jellyfish/ ??? cyclones make it somewhere not to go then or are these annoyances rather than problems ??

Yeh annoyances more than anything. Its still a beautiful place to visit, we get many visitors up here in January time, so these nasties don't stop people from visiting, just come prepared...

Bring mozzie repellant, makesure you swim in the stinger net area, hire a stinger suit when you visit the reef (most operators have these or wetsuits), cyclones....its pot luck really whether you encounter one whilst here!
