I'm familiar only with Qantas, and seems they no longer service KL - check with Malasian Airlines and they may have the route in place.
Hi,sorry ,posted a reply to you,but put it in wrong place,see posting,KL-CAIRNS,
I usually fly to Aus with malaysia airlines via KL. If you're lucky they often have a special offer and throw in free internal flight within malaysia. I've taken advantage of this and been to penang and kuching.
They don't fly out of Cairns though - I've had to go fly back down to Brisbane when I've been in far north queensland. I've flown to Sydney and Perth with them too.
They also have nintendo's in each seat.....great for passing the time!
Hi, I flew from Cairns directly to KL a few years ago.
If you are going to Cairns may i suggest a few trips.
If you decide to go out to the reef, do the trip to the Franklin Isl, it is definatley the best (i have done all) the Skyrail is very good, but make sure the other half of the journey is by train.
As for beaches, go to the locals bchs, Clifton bch, Kewarra bch, try not to go into Palm Cove unless you really like the "touristy" thing, it is very commercial and very expensive, but it is nice all the same.
Some of the local spots are Stoney creek at Redlynch, this is a beautifull clear crystal creek, without the tourists, with huge rock faces which you can jump off. Oak beach is about 20k south of Port Douglas and is BEAUTIFULL.
Anything else, just ask!
Hi Not an airline expert but I believe the only aitlines flying from UK & Europe to Austrlia via K.L. are Malaysian & Austrian. Neither of these fly to Cairns although Malaysian does fly to Brisbane. You would need to get a domestic flight from Bris to Cairns. As I say not an expert but that seems to be the case from my experience and research, stand to be corrected by a genuine expert.
Australian Airlines does fly Singapore to Cairns. There are many travel options from KL to Singapore.
Thanks to your replies everyone, seems possible to get to Cairns via KL maybe with Malaysian airways, will try, is it cheaper to go through a travel agent or do all the bookings yourself like flights hotels ect? on the web ? paid a fortune with Travelbag! though we did upgrade the seats with Eva airways which was great.
I just had a look at the Cairns airport website and it appears that Malaysian Airlines does not fly into Cairns.
If you have a look at the website, it will tell you what international airlines service Cairns and from where they have come.
We are flying to Australia from Ireland this summer with a 3 day stopover in KL on the way over.
I spent a fair bit of time researching the most economical ways of doing this trip whilst seeing and experiencing as much as possible. Booking flights directly on the Internet turned out a very expensive way of doing things.
We booked through Ebookers flying from Dublin to London and then on to Kl for 3 days. Onwards then to Sydney (where we will be based) with return flights on the same route without the overnights in KL.
We then booked a flight from Sydney to Cairns with Virgin Blue ( Australian low cost carriers )returning a week later.
Enjoy your trip.
