driving to kuranda

hi, everyone...

I was wondering if it's ok to drive up to kuranda from Cairns or would it be better just taking the train or skyrail? We will have a car and would prefer to do it that way, since we will be going over to A.J. Hackett bungee park afterwards, but I was wondering if there was some place to park.

thanks!

You can drive up, plenty of parking and only a short trip. Guess about 20 mins from Cairns. You can also walk down to the platform where the train stops to see Barron gorge and the falls, follow the signs.

Perhaps even consider then driving to Yungaburra and down the range at Gordonvale for a bit of a loop tour. You can stop and see a few sights and also see how the vegetation changes so dramatically away from rainforest, through rich volcanic agricultural land and then back to rainforest. Time allowing.

Kuranda is a 30min plus drive from central Cairns. Plenty of parking, it's only a very small town. The train is a wonderful experience, however the skyrail doesn't actually leave from Cairns anyway., it's at the foot of the mountain up near Smithfield (15-20min drive north of Cairns) so you would still need to get transport from/to Cairns anyway. It's still a good experience but if you are just wanting a mode of transport and not fussed with the experience then take the car, much much easier.
