Earlville vs. Cairns/Port Douglas

Exactly where is Earlville in relation to Cairns and Port Douglas? Is it smart to stay in Earlville if we will be going out snorkeling on the Quicksilver and how far inland is Earlville from the beach? We will have a rental car which we plan on taking from Cairns to PJ's (accommodations in Cape Trib). Is that much of a drive?

Earlville is a subburb in Cairns. Port Douglas is further north. I would advise if you are doing the Great Barrier Reef to stay in Port Douglas. Cape Trib is about an hour 1/4 north of Cairns an easy drive in your rental car.
