closest beach to brisbane?

We are a young family with a 20month old that would like to get out to the beach for a weekend. We will be flying into Brisbane airport, and won't have a car. We need a nice beachside town that is close to the airport, what do you suggest? Also, any suggestions on accommodation? Maybe one that does a shuttle service to the airport, that would be great! Close to the beach and playgrounds please. Thanks for your help

There really aren't any beaches close to Brisbane or its airport, unless you like mud-flats ... the closest town with a beach would probably be Redcliffe and it may suit your needs. http://www.redcliffe.net.au/ None of the beaches are ocean beaches, you would have to travel to the Gold or Sunshine Coasts for that.

There is very little options for transport to get there ... using trains and buses would take forever and be quite involved. I suggest you use ... http://astellaservice.com.au/ She has a good reputation.

You'll find car hire cheaper than a shuttle, and possibly even public transport. If you are used to driving in SA, you won't have a problem.

There are fantastic beaches with beachfront playgrounds within an easy hour drive north and south of the airport.

As others have stated the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast have lovely beaches and plenty of amenities. Redcliffe is also a great option, the beaches IMO are OK, not to the quality of the SC or GC, another option which is great for families is Bribie Island just north of Brisbane. Bribie has a lovely calm side, especially for toddlers, and it has a nice surf side.

Just another option.

Safe travels - Robert

A second vote to head to the beach at Southbank Parklands in the city. It meets all your needs.

southbank hardly qualifies as a 'beachside town' as per OP's origina post.

a man made pond with some sand dumped around the edges is hardly best described as a beach either.

a 20 month old isn't going to be the worlds greatest judge of a beach

Southbank is a tremendous facility

I think for convenience and for this particular purpose, South Bank will be just fine. Had the OP had more time, places like Suttons Beach, or the flats like Wellington Point, or of course down the coast, would have been nice.

if you don't have anything sensible practical helpful to contribute you aren't obliged to reply

new south wales and noosa don't fit the OPs needs so your xspurtness is irrelevant
