6 Hour Layover at Brisbane Airport

Hello there,

Going back to London from Vanuatu I will have 6 hours to kill in Brisbane. I intend taking the Airtrain into the city centre & have a comfortable 2-3 hours look at the sights.

Given the obvious time constraints, is there a 'must see' within easy reach of the Central Station? or should I just have a wander about and see what's what.

I am further limited by arriving at 17.45, so I would presume any

buildings etc, would be closed by the time I make it to the centre.

If my only reasonable option is a wander about taking photos, can someone give some pointers.

I've already arranged e-visas, so they'll let me out the airport - which is always a good start!

Regards

I would suggest that you catch the Airtrain to South Brisbane and hop off at Southbank. Take a walk and you will get some good views back to the city.

You could also catch a citycat and see Brisbane from the river. If you wanted to catch the citycat back towards the airport get off at Brett's Wharf and then catch a taxi to the airport. This is a 10-15 min ride.

It's probably the best plan John. Have a look at the following site to orientate yourself.

The big wheel will be open at that time and would give you a good birds eye view of the city.

Yes given the time you are arriving it will likely be about 7pm before you get into the city. Depending on what day of the week your options of places that are open will be limited.

So I agree Southbank is the best option, the city lights across the river are lovely at night, the Wheel of Brisbane provides a unique perspective and then the amazing restaurants around Southbank / West End will get the belly full before you have to fly out.

We have some lovely old buildings around that area just across the river - the Treasury Casino & Hotel are both heritage buildings and nice to have a look at. But you may not have enough time to wander the CBD too much. Our recently renovated City Hall building is worth having a look at you won't be able to get inside but it is great to have a look at and take some shots.

Enjoy your (brief) stay in Brisbane and safe travels.
