Please help me plan a 4 day adventure in/near Brisbane :)

Hello! A group of 5-7 U.S. roller derby women will be in Brisbane after a roller derby tour in Australia. They will have from the 26th to the 30th to experience as much of Australia as they can in 4 days! I told them that I would ask Trip Advisor travelers for help in making the most of their short time there. We need ideas for places to stay on a budget and the best things to do in the area to ensure that they have a great time!

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

Roller Derby…? Now that brings back a few bruises; memories for me…

Glad you said Adventure it means no Museums to me, so I’d like to suggest in Brisbane; Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island for some sand tobogganing, snorkelling the Wrecks and feeding the Dolphins for this time of year.

Secondly in Brisbane; Kangaroo Cliffs abseiling and or the Story Bridge climb are in close proximity of one another, where afterwards you could rest those aches by taking our Public Transport - CityCat Ferry for a ride up and down along the Brisbane River and get off at Southbank for the Markets or North Quay for the Treasury Casino and City.

Thirdly; near Brisbane there’s Australia Zoo. Here you can either catch a train with connecting bus service or take the Tour Bus direct. All of these suggestions can be arranged and found at your choice of accommodation or please check those websites.

Lastly; near Brisbane we have 4 Theme Parks, but it's something you have also… In comparison ours are smaller as we don’t have the population and amusement rides are not as sophisticated, but they are still fun for the adrenin junkie and different. I also find that some rides are either closed or under maintenance to get your monies worth on the day. Sea World & Dreamworld would be my suggestion regardless of this happening.

As for accommodation; whilst I am able to recommend a place to stay on a budget, I will not risk offending anyone’s travel style by making suggestions in this Forum. I’m sure someone will step in and give you good direction.

Cheers Angie

Angie, that is EXACTLY what we are looking for! Thanks so much for taking the time to help guide us!! Anyone else want to jump in on places to stay? I was thinking about VRBO since there are 5-7 travelers.... Please keep the ideas coming! I KNEW I could count on Trip Advisor :)

If you are staying near the CBD, 'Riverlife' at Kangaroo Point might be worth investigating.

They have paddleboarding, abseiling, rock climbing, kayaking, cycling, rollerblading and more.

Thanks guys!! This is awesome info!

So, the plan has changed..... they have decided that even though their time in Australia (after the derby tour, which is already set) is limited to four days, it is very important to them to spend time at the reef, no matter how far it is from Brisbane. The mission now (should you choose to accept it) is to help me get them from Brisbane on 11/26 (AM) to a cool place on the reef where they can snorkle and possibly dive (some are certified divers). They must fly out of Brisbane back to the US on 11/30, so would probably return to that area on 11/29. What travel options are available? I took a quick look at flights which looked to be over $300 US each round-trip, which is out of their budget. They will also need lodging for the 11/26, 11/27 & 11/28 for wherever they end up in the reef area. We know nothing about the area, so I apologize for my naivete :(

Is there any wanna be travel agents out there that are up to helping me with this challenge? Thanks for any and all suggestions.... you guys are amazing!

I really suggest you get them to rethink what they want to do within their budget.

You have good suggestions around Brisbane, however adding the reef will be expensive but very worthwhile.

Check out flights to Cairns and also to the Whitsundays.

Perhaps the GBR is going to be too expensive due to the airfares involved. Travelling by bus is not going to work either due to the distance.

Why not spend some time at either the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast.

You won't get to snorkel but you would have the opportunity to experience our world class beaches.

You could travel to Moreton Island which is only an hour or so and snorkel and dive around the wrecks. No coral to see but there are coloured fish.

Perhaps you need to get together and sort out a budget and go from there.

Good luck.
