Are sandflies a problem on the Sunshine Coast?

I have heard that sandflies might be a problem all along the Sunshine Coast. Was that the correct information?

If so do they bite?

Are they a problem in July?

I've never had a problem with sandflies. They are mostly out at the bay islands (Fraser, Stradbroke etc). Midgies and mosquitos are a problem in summer time, but July is our winter and not many around at all.
