Near to brisbane on the beach

My wife and I have 5-6 days in Brisbane. We would like a beach/island peaceful/quiet spot for swimming, snokelling, walking and relaxing. Self catering would be great. We would prefer to be without car so public transport. OK asking a lot but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Tx

My suggestion would be Moreton Island.

or Sanctuary Cove.

Moreton Island sounds like the best spot for you. You catch a ferry / catamarna to the island, stay in the resort and enjoy the beach, snorkelling on Tangalooma wrecks.

Hire a car and drive to Agnes water.Stay at the edge apartments.

Take a day trip to Lady Musgrave Island or Fitzroy reef.

Many thanks guys (or possibly gals!) You have opened our eyes to some options. looking at moreton and Bribie - like the accomodation on moreton at Bulwer and the general terrain of Bribie - c'est la vie. Jacko Agnes seems a bit too far for three days especially as the others don't need a car but tx anyway. I think if we like the place then we will return and do a trip Sydney to Cairns.

Any little self catering quiet gems on the beach pls let us know.

Bulwer is another world, a fantastic choice.

I do not agree with Moreton Island . Once you are there you are stuck there.

I would recommend North Stradbroke, Point Lookout especially.

There is a local bus on the Island. The hotel has the best view in Australia (my opinion). A lot of good accommodation and is only a quick Catermaran ferry trip back to the mainland.

Thanks flinx333 that gives us a lot of options and as you say the accomodation options are varied. Presumably the view is across the bay?

I agree the view from Straddie Hotel is one of the best ocean views i know, looks north over the ocean and Moreton Island.
