Help - Places to Visit

We are a family of 4 including 2 kids of about 3 & 4 years old. We are planning on a 1 week visit to Brisbane, Gold Coast & Sunshine Coast in early Mar. We will be hiring a car for the week.

Can anyone advise what would be the recommended places to visit given that we have only 1 week besides visiting the themed parks?

Would it be advisable to stay in Gold Coast and drive to Sunshine Coast or break up the accomodations between the 2 locations?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

For wildlife, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Australia Zoo. For koala cuddling, Australian Woolshed or Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. All were kid friendly.

I'd break up the accommodations. Driving along that coastal highway is slow with lots of traffic and what seems like a million traffic lights.

G,day Einsteins

Brisbane is in the middle of Sunshine coast and gold coast. Each is about 1 hour drive each way. Now for what to see :

Brisbane: Not too much in the outer suburbs. Stick to city centre. Southbank parklands , Museum and state library are all next to each other on the south bank of Brisbane. You might want to take a "citycat ferry" up and down the river too. Just to see how we live here. Queen street mall is on the north side of the river. Along with the casino. It was the state treasury building but now it is the casino. Beaches in Brisbane are not great and are not in the centre of the city. You might want to think about a day trip to Moreton Island as well. For the best steak in town go to the "Breakfast creek Hotel" You can pick your own huge steak and the Beer comes in wooden kegs. Also not a tourist trap. Good value !

Gold coast: Nice by day and early evening but not so nice late at night for families. Beaches are beautiful though. Note : when swimming on the beach always swim between the red and yellow flags. And always obey life guards! Basically gold coast is the main tourist place for South East Queensland. Theme parks are at coomera and include "Movie world" and Dreamworld" further toward Brisbane is "Wet and wild water park". Also Seaworld is on Gold coast spit.

Sunshine coast: Is north of Brisbane. Much quieter than gold coast and probably better for families with young kids. Steve Irwins Australia Zoo is there too. Beaches are also nice. Cafes on Hastings street Noosa are a nice wat to spend some time.

You should see a bit in a week if you plan it right. Also while you are here try a meat pie. It is probably our national dish. They are cheap tasty and available from most bakeries.

Hope you enjoy Queensland !
