3 day iternirary in Darwin

Hi all. My boyfriend and I (early 30s) will be in Darwin from April 22-25th and are unsure about booking tours now or when we arrive. We realize that it is still considered the wet season but hoping we can still see the Twin Falls/Jim Jim Falls. We would like to see Kakadu, of course, and Litchfield. Should we look into a 3 day/2n safari tours to both or just take the Kadadu tour and maybe do a day tour from Darwin to Litchfield.

Thanks for your advice and any suggestions would be appreciated. (Our first time to Australia)=)

Wait till you arrive to book tours and check with the tourist bureau and locals as access to the falls maybe stopped till the wet is truly over. Same goes for the tours - there's lots of them so make your choice when here. Have fun.

Hi Angela

Probably the only way you will be able to see Jim Jim and Twin Falls at the end of April is by air. Due to the rainfall, access to Twin Falls is limited by the level of water of the South Alligator River which has to be crossed by 4 wheel drive. The level is usually too high at this time of year. In addition, both areas need to be checked by rangers in the National Park to ensure that crocodiles that may have moved into the area during the wet season have been removed. This is unlikely to happen until they can access the area. whic h would probably be late May or June at the earliest.

You can still see things in Kakadu at this time though. The rock art sites at Nourlangie and Ubirr (which also has a fantastic view) should be open. Yellow Water is a fantastic wetland with cruises in morning and afternoon. Tour operators should have some other wet-season places up their sleeve too.The countryside is a lot greener and lusher than later in the year when things get dry and burnt.

Litchfield would occupy a full day, and though Wangi falls may not be open, you can still swim at Buley Rockholes or Florence Falls, and visit Tolmer Falls too.

Hopes this helps.
