How long should we stay?

Planning on arriving early November on The Ghan and then flying to Bali after a stopover. Will want a couple of days just to rest after the train journey. Could stay up to a week though.

However don't want to stay too long if there's not much in Darwin to appeal....

Both in our 60's so really not into nightlife, active sports, hiking etc. Not wanting to hire a car either.

Like to see places, nature, wildlife, day trips.....

Any comments very much appreciated...

Darwin 2 days - plenty to do

Kakadu and litchfield MInimum time three days any less is really rushed.

To get to kakadu and litchfield yo need if either self drive or get a tour. There is no public transport .

To enjoy the natural features of these places you need to do some walking in.

Liking nature and wildlife and not wanting to rent a car, I would look at some of the day trips from various companies. There is a 1 day Litchfield National Park tour which doesn't really have a lot of hiking.

I would especially recommend a trip to the Territory Wildlife Park. A great park with different habitats in a small area and a train/bus that shuttles you between these and lots of wildlife (birds of prey display, nocturnal house, walk through aquarium etc).

There is also the jumping crocs tours.

Here is an example of a couple of these tours:

Darwin day tours also do these sort of tours as well:
