Many attractions are within walking distance of the CBD. Desert Park is a bit of a hike and you would need transport as you would with the Transport Hall of Fame. How long are you in Alice for and where are you staying? This information would give an idea of your distance to attractions you mention. Oh, and when are you planning to visit?
Thank you for your reply, I am hoping to visit Alice Springs in June and stay at the Aurora, as you mention the Desert Park etc, is a bit far to walk, am I better taking a tour to the out of way places?
Have you thought about hiring a car ?? You could then visit the West Macdonnell Ranges which are fabulous.
The Desert Park, Pioneer woman's hall of fame, Royal flying doctors museum, Alice Cultural precinct,
Anzac hill and the Olive pink botanic gardens are all fairly close to Aurora.
Depending on your duration of stay and arrival time, some of the June events in Alice are;
The Todd mall and Heavitree gap markets, the Beanie festival and the Finke Desert Race.
Other sites like the above mentioned will need a hire car.
Why not hire a bicycle? It's all very flat and not too hot in June to cycle. There are cycle paths everywhere in Alice, so it's pretty safe.
If you are staying at Aurora, Ron the GM will look after you and you will enjoy the buffet breakfasts.
Also, since you are almost at the centre of town, the Todd mall markets are on every 2 weeks.
See the link below, which hopefully coincides with your visit.
