Trip Report - Oct 2013

We love Sydney!

My husband and I visited Sydney from October 6 – 12, 2013. We spent 6 days 6 nights in Sydney.

We stayed in one bedroom apartment at Meriton Apartment @ Campbell St.

The apartment was clean, fully furnished and equipped, quiet and spacious. Apartment itself has washing machine, dryer, microwave, oven, dishwasher, TV, disc player, separate bathtub and shower.

The location is unbeatable, between Central and Town Hall station (both walkable distance), few steps away from light rail, very near to World Square Mall, Paddy market, and foods (so many eateries around). Service was perfect, friendly, and efficient. It is such a lovely place to stay.

To and from airport, we took taxi. From airport to Meriton at 8.30am, it cost 28AUD whereas when we took from Meriton to airport at 5.30am (the driver took us through the toll road), it cost 49AUD.

We also bought my Multi 3 weekly ticket for 66AUD (correct me if I am wrong, memory is failing me).

As we were there for six full days, I think it is great.

Food & Drink

We spent a night at Night noodle market, just for the atmosphere. We cooked some dinners during our stay there (Meriton is just too lovely; we just can’t bear to stay out late at night). Few foods & drinks that linger in mind:

1. Lord Nelson’s brewery: beer, chicken wings and pizza.

2. The Pines: beer.

3. Café Sydney: for the view and the appetizer (squid).

Day to day activities

a) Walked from Meriton to the Rocks

b) The Rocks – Museum (free), Free musical performance, Pancakes on The Rocks, Harbour Bridge

c) World Square for groceries shopping

d) Luna Park (at night)

e) Lord Nelson Brewery

a) The Spit bridge to Manly walk (gorgeous!!! But I was underdressed, it was cold and it took us 5hours to complete including an hour lunch picnic)

b) Manly- Jazz Festival, The Pines for food and beer

c) Chat Thai (such a long queue!)

a) Coogee to Bondi beach (We love this!!! It took us 5.5hours to complete include one hour lunch picnic. This walk is not to be missed).

b) Bondi – just relaxed and enjoyed atmosphere, tried fried Mars Bars

c) Star Casino, Pyrmont Bridge and Darling Harbour.

a) Sydney Fish Market (we bought back to apartment and ate them there. We spent way too much and couldn’t finish all the foods we bought)

b) Watson’s – The Gap, Camp Cove, Hornby Lighthouse. We love it here too. We regretted didn’t bring swimwear for swim at Camp Cove. We spent around 3hours here.

c) Pylon Lookout – we went there 15minutes before closing, it was free.

d) Mrs Macquerie lookout & Botanic Garden – lovely place

e) We walked to Hyde Park from botanic garden for night noodle market

Blue mountain. We didn’t buy ticket for any HOHO or Trolley bus. We just use our My Multi ticket to get around. We took train from Central Station, reached Blue Mountain around 10.20am, walked to The Carrington Hotel and took trolley number 2 to Scenic World. We rode the Railway down, walked around the boardwalk, rode the cable car up and took the Skywalk. From the Skywalk station, we walked to Katoomba Fall look out and walked back to Echo Point. It was very windy, but the view was gorgeous.

From Echo Point, we took trolley number 2 back to Katoomba. And took another bus to Leura. We had tea at Bygones beauty, the scones were lovely.

Sadly this was our last day in Sydney, we slept in and went to Paddy Market for a quick souvenir stop. Took ferry to Taroonga Zoo stop and bus to Balmoral Beach. We had a swim, such a lovely spot. Back to town, went to Sydney Opera House to collect our Romeo and Juliet tickets. Went back took a shower, rushed to Café Sydney. What a lovely view for our last dinner in Sydney! Afterwards, we went to Sydney Opera House for the drama (R&J). As a night cap, we went to Opera Bar.

Overall, we love Sydney!! We thank everyone in this forum who had helped answering our silly questions, provided many wonderful advices and suggestions. Thank you!!
