Some suggestions please

Hi

We will be staying in The Rocks in NYE for 5 nights which was the minimum night stay our hotel permitted. We have been to Australia before and travelled extensively but last time we visited was only for 2 nights. We did get to do the bridge climb, Darling Harbour and see the ballet in the Opera House. What else would you suggest?

After these 5 nights we have another 5 nights before our flight back to the UK from Sydney. I was thinking of hiring a car and driving to the Blue mountains area and staying over for 2 nights but this still leaves us another 3 nights spare so any other suggestions we can tie in after leaving The Rocks.

Thanks

Hmmmm

What are you particularly interested in?

With your extra few nights, bad time of year as every man and his dog aunty and best mate are on holidays.

Why not head further west, is wine your thing? or down to the Snowfields area as the summer season is great.

I realise its going to be busy so we are keen to get something sorted. We are two 32 year olds, enjoy trekking and anything active, bit also like a bit of relaxation, we also generally avoid cities. Sydney NYE is the exception of course!!

Driving is no problem, same side as the Uk so we are confident drivers. Not big wine drinkers.

This is just a wild suggestion, but would something like heading down to Canberra, across to the South Coast and back up be of any interest?

I suppose Yamba would be out of the equation :)

Haha too good Glenn.

You know it it's not such a crazy suggestion. Can a round trip incorporating the North Coast and say something like Hunter Valley be possible? Is there a scenic drive that could be feasible?

I know my partner has been to Canberra, I haven't though. What is there to do? Is this on our path after the Blue Mountains.

I generally don't really like cities, but if I am missing something, happy to consider.

Well Canberra will have summernats

http://www.summernats.com.au

Not sure if that is your thing

it's not mine ;)

From BMs you can go either direction.

summer isn't walking season, too hot and bushfires unless you head high

Is Jenolan Caves on the agenda?

Regarding the caves, not sure. Been to caves at Margaret River and also in NZ and Tasmania and they don't look half as good to be honest.

Blue Mountains, Canberra, high country and back up the coast, how big a loop would depend on how many days you can spare for the journey and how much you want to do at each stop.

Canberra is the bush capital, kangaroos five minutes from the city centre, a great botanic gardens specialising in native plants, the dish that received the first moonwalk pics, bushwalking, segway round the lake, historic sites of early European and Aboriginal settlement of the region.

But GurusW is right, it's summer. Have you thought about flying south, way south? Tasmania is great! Edit: Okeydokey, you've been to Tassie :-)

Oh yes, Tassie would have been my first choice and we would love to have returned there infact we did look at spending time there but internal flights are soooo expensive, not to mention that most accommodations we looked at were also sold out. This would have been my first choice after NYE.

Once we leave the Rocks we have our 5 nights and I've just been looking. Do you think we can do Catherine Hill Bay, Seal Rock, Treachery and the Blue Mountains. Would this make a nice trip and return to Sydney after. In what order would you put this?
