NYE at Cremorne point

Have got family over from the UK (age ranges from 18 to 60!) and was planning on walking down to Cremorne Point about 10pm to watch the midnight fireworks. Was anyone there last year and do you think we'd get in ok at that time? Someone told me that families with kids start to clear out after the 9pm fireworks so although its still crowded you can get in later in the evening. Any experiences from last year would be greatly appreciated!

I go there every year and generally wander down about 11 pm or a little after. It's very crowded but we've never failed to get a good view of the fireworks yet and it's a family friendly, happy party atmosphere.

Things have certainly quietened down since the council imposed an alcohol ban which is pretty strictly enforced.

I would assume that no one in your party has any mobility issues as it's an uphill walk from the Point back to Military Rd - about a kilometer.

Not sure if you are planning to drive into the area, but be aware of road closures and parking restrictions in the area from the afternoon. If you are planning on getting a bus back home, the roads are usually in gridlock for a couple of hours after the event.

Thanks for all the advice! We had a wonderful night down there, got there about 10.30pm and although it was busy we got a seat on the grass with a great view. Fab atmosphere and a real treat to see the fireworks so close without having to pay $$$. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone for next year. People had camped out for hours to get the best spots but you can just wander down later and still get the view. Great option for all ages and although the walk back up to military road was quite a hike, it was worth it to see the fireworks.
