After NYE-safe to walk from Green Square station to apt

Hi,

Due to the large crowds after NYE, we are thinking of taking the train to the nearest train station (Green Square station) near our apartment (Meriton Apartments Danks St). We are not sure if there are taxis available around Green Square station on NYE after midnight, so may need to walk back to the apartment. I believe the walk is approximately 20min, and will be via Bourke St. Is this area relatively safe to walk late at night?

Thanks!

I think you may be better to catch a bus. There are 4 bus routes which run along Bourke St, with a stop near Danks St. Familiarise with the routes by visiting the Sydney buses website.

Also be aware there will be changes to the bus stops in the city on NYE so check the papers or website a few days before for details.

There will be no cabs available on the streets and booking a cab at that time of night you could end up waiting a couple of hours.

The walk down Bourke St would be quite safe as there will be lots of people on the streets on NYE, however, it would be quicker and a much shorter walk if you were to take the bus back to the apartments. The 301,302,303 and M20 all go very close to Danks St.

If you decide to walk, I'd walk from Central.

If you walk up Devonshire St through Surry Hills and along Bourke St, it will be busy with people on the streets. Green Square is a bit quiet.

I am assuming you mean to return to the apartment after midnight - and whilst there should be extra public transport late that night, the 301/2/3 route isnt necessarily one that will have that option, so walking may be the better plan. Crown st which runs parallel to Bourke might be a more people friendly route. But generally the area is quite safe, and you sure wont be alone.
