1. Re: Suggestions needed

each of the places u mention has heaps of information on their respective forum pages ie. things to see and do, transport info, itineraries, places to stay etc.

look on the lh and rh side of the pages,

this has been done so regular contributors dont have to keep repeating the same answers over and over.

after u have read thru all this and have some additional questions about specifics get back to us.

To get ideas about places to stay and their rates have a look at www.wotif.com and also www.lastminute.com.au

In Sydney, staying in the CBD is the most convenient but can also be the most expensive.

Once you have found a couple of hotels you like the look of, check with the hotel's own website. The rates could be cheaper by booking direct.

In addition to lien's xcellent advice to do some research on TA, here are some links to websites which will give you a comprehensive list of free things to do in Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania.

You've given no indication of your interests, so it would be best if you go through the lists of attractions and see what appeals to you. Then, if you have any further questions, please come back and someone here will be happy to help.

One persons <<must visit attraction>> is another's 'must stay away from'.

Happy planning!

Look at the trip reports on the right hand side of the page to see what others have done as that's a good indication of what can be accomplished within various timeframes and budgets.

To the right is also a FAQ on Budget travel with lots of hints and tips about where to eat etc

For your questions on Melbourne - tho' I have lived there - I think you should ask the Melbourne Forum and get advice from the DEs and regular contributers there ... and read their FAQs too.

It's hard to give you advice when you've provided no indication of what you want to do and see or where you are staying. Something must have attracted you to want to come to Australia ... what was that ?
