There are buses every 30 minutes from various locations in Sydney; the journey takes about ninety minutes. For further informatioin and timetables, the website www.131500.com has all the answers.

Best to get a car . Once you get to palm beach the buses may not take you exactly to where home and away is filmed and its a nice area to have alook around

No bus is what you want. Palm Beach is on a very narrow peninsular (as you'll see if you seek out the bus route maps on the website AlanJ gave you). The bus will take you right to the end, that little white path is nothing that would require a vehicle. There's no additional travelling required to get to where home and away is recorded. ...and parking at Palm Beach can be an absolute nightmare!

and not only that, in a bus you're up higher and will get a much better view of the beaches etc as you travel down the northern beaches.

or you can get the ferry, perhaps go one way by bus and return by ferry..the site also gives you details on the ferry service to the basin, one of the traditional Pittwater favourite camping/picnic spots.
