Hawkesbury River - Any half day tours

Although I know it's a fairly easy drive up the Hawkebury but on behalf of my elderly inlaws, I need to know if there are any organised coach tours that perhaps will leave Sydney reasonably early on any given day, include a boat trip on the river and be back in Sydney by lunchtime or shortly thereafter. The few organised trips I have found featured on the web seem to last virtually all day. Any clues that can help would be appreciated.

The best idea is take the L90 bus from Wydnard Station to Palm Beach Wharf.

The cruise leaves Palm Beach Wharf at 11.00am daily but unfornuately takes longer than you require.

Another great way to see the river is to catch the Riverboat Postman, this is a service that delivers mail to isolated houses it takes approx 3 hours and runs Monday to Friday. Catch a train from Central Railway Station in the city at 8.16am to Hawkesbury River Railway Station in time to catch the mailman. (02 9985 7566) for more details.

Palm Beach ferries also offers a unique way to see Pittwater which operates from Palm Beach Wharf (02 99182747) you can catch a ferry to Ettalong, The Basin, Patagona, Pearl Beach and Woy Woy.(Although you do miss out on the Hawkesbury River)

Another alternative is to hire a boat from www.barrenjoeyboathire.com.au

www.sydneyferries.info - ferry timetable.

or if budget allows hire a seaplane from Rose Bay..they fly you to Cottage Point Inn..Hawkesbury River..have coffee..fly back..fabulous experience and well worth the expense..as you get to see everything.Including our beautiful coastline from Sydney to Palm Beach.

For that sort of timeframe you may be better off to...

catch the train to Brooklyn(hawkewsbury river)

take the dangar island ferry

get of the ferry and have morning tea at the general store.

catch the next ferry and complete the loop via wobby.

catch the train back to sydney.
