girls weekend in sydney

we are planning a girls weekend - most of us have not done this since having children some years ago! We are travelling from Auckland to Sydney mid march and are wondering where would be a good spot to stay. We like the idea of staying in a hotel, something nice without costing the earth. I thought the Rydges Jamison looked nice - not sure what the best location is though. Darling harbour sounds like it has its limitations so we are not so keen on that. We are interested in shopping, nightlife (if we can manage it!), art galleries, general sightseeing.

As far as costs go we thought staying with as many people per room would be helpful but not sure how practical this is in hotels. Our budget is probably about $60 -70- AUD per night per person.

what a lovely idea. we did a girls weekend to melbourne some years back and had a great time too. the 4 of us we stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment - another option for your group?

use the www.wotif.com site for research. i find that it's great for links to the hotels themselves. their maps are also good.

there's a boutique hotel in the city (that does not cost the earth) listed there...the castlereagh. very central....almost in the shopping heart of sydney but just on the edge so it's quiet on the weekend.

have a great weekend.

Holiday Inn OLd Sydney has good reports and in great position. Not sure what price but check site mentioned above or on this site. Darling harbour is okay, it does have a lot apartments. Skycity Casino offers fabulous large apartments with own kitchen, lounge room, and balcony. There is also a lot of nighlife in this area and walking distance to other nightlife in city. Also within walking distance to the main hub of town. You can catch the monorail if feeling lazy or just walk over footbridge. Good restaurants in Darling Harbour.

The Rocks is another fabulous position to stay at. Close to everything and plenty of transport available. Good nightlife and restaurants.

I agree with above...try the bathes they are terrific and a great way to treat yorself. It is always fun...
