serviced apartments for LifesGood

check out these sites

http://www.sydneyservicedapartments.net/

http://www.accommodationsydney.com.au/

there are many others.

cremorne point is a lovely area but to get to the city centre you'd need a bus or ferry trip and with a young child that might be difficult.

when you asked for 'quaint' did you mean 'not sterile and run-ot-the-mill' places?

did not wish to piggyback on nikki's post again, hence this new thread.

happy planning.

Oh, you're smart to start a new thread. Thanks, I'll check those sites. By 'quaint' I mean a place that doesn't look/feel like a motel. We're traveling halfway around the world -- I guess I just don't want to feel like we're in an American place. Simpsons seems to have charm. I'm waiting to hear if children are welcome. Still researching!

Gosh, Life'sGood, that apartment at Cremorne is pricey! I gasped when I saw what they were asking, and then gasped again when I saw this was AMERICAN dollars, which is even worse! I agree that Cremorne is a lovely place, and the ferry ride to the CBD is delightful (and only about ten or twelve minutes), but there are other charming places to stay in that area.... for instance, try Cremorne Point Manor. You can get a family room with a kitchen there for a hundred and sixty dollars.... and that's Australian dollars. Single rooms start as low as $AUD52. Don't pay a king's ransom to stay in Sydney... save your money to use it on seeing what a beautiful city this really is. Cremorne is, I think, a good place to start... elegant, residential, full of grand old homes and not a McDonald's in sight.

I forgot to include the link to the Cremorne Point Manor in the post above, so here it is : www.cremornepointmanor.com.au/

If you want elegance and are prepared to forego the kitchen in the room, here is another interesting old place, just a stroll to the CBD: http://www.paddingtonterrace.com/

Or this one: bedandbreakfastsydney.com/html/accommodation…

Or even this : http://www.ardmorehouse.com.au/.

Of course, I don't know if children are welcome in any of these, but my own experience with B&Bs has been that most hosts will go out of their way to do little extras for a child..... a bit like staying with Grandma!

Anyway, the main point of these links is to show you that you can get some beautiful accommodation in Sydney for around $AUD150 a night (some of these, I think, are less than that).
