help!! confused on hotel for honeymoon

Hello,

We are going to be coming to Sydney as the last phase of our honeymoon trip to Australia and NZealand. We would like to find a really nice hotel to stay in Sydney but under 350AU?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to nice 4 star hotels with views of the harbour? We were looking at the Shangri La?

Thanks so very much for any help you can provide in advance!:)

The ShangriLa is a good hotel, I stayed there when it was the ANA - fantastic views.

Also look at www.mirvachotels.com.au they have the Quay Grand and Quay West both great places/views

When are you planning to come ?

Your budget should get you most of the good 5* hotels around Circular Quay/Rocks area (where the best views of the main harbour are). The Shangri La is definitely a 5* hotel and if you have a good deal already I'd go with it. Try to confirm that you have a harbour view room, preferably at least half way up. Others in addition to the two mentioned above would be the Four Seasons and the Marriott Sydney Harbour (same issues about aspect with these too).

One other possibility worth looking at would be the uber-chic W Hotel on the Wooloomooloo finger wharf. Not as close to the centre of town (but only a short walk) but oozes sophistication. I haven't stayed there, but the reviews are generally very good.

Dear rojaan1 and OnThePoint:

thank you very much for your suggestions! We are planning on coming to Sydney in middle November and it sounds like there are a few choices that we have in regards to hotels.....We were offered a rate at the Shangri La of 311AU but that is for the Darling Harbour view room and it sounds as though the other Harbour view room would be better....Will also check out the Mariott and the W as you suggested.....Thanks again!:)

The Darling Harbour view room is definitely not the same as looking straight over the bridge, Opera House and out to the Sydney Harbour heads. The rooms that face north and north-east have these views. They're quoting a west-facing room to you. Not bad, but as one of the other forum members keeps on saying, it isn't the harbour view you'd be expecting.

It really is worth spending a bit more to get the "real" view at this hotel.

I only mentioned the W for style. It is a low-slung hotel set on a wharf so you don't get iconic views, but it really is very smart.

Other hotels worth considering might be the Intercontintal (upper floors facing the gardens, with harbour in background) and possibly the Sir Stamford which doesn't have great harbour views but is quite boutique and wonderfully placed right by the Opera House and botanical gardens. These are both on Macquarie St which is quieter than most of the other main streets at night.

Harbour /gardens rooms at the intercontinental are super quiet...you can also get a bridge view which are pretty good as well...for that really outstanding view go for a harbour view suite...we had one for NYE fireworks and it was just amazing....

At the shangrila the northeast corner rooms have an absolutely fantastic view-we had one on the 13th floor and that was high enough for the view.I would email the hotel and see if they would do you a deal for your honeymoon-its amazing how many hotel managers are incurable romantics.

Contact the Park Hyatt for a price on one of their rooms. Tell them that for religious reasons (or whatever) you simply MUST have a room where you can see Fort Denison. Now, don't worry about what Fort Denison is.... just be assured that if you are looking at Fort Denison from the Park Hyatt, you are being treated to one of the best views in Sydney, or anywhere. I have a feeling it may be above your price range, but you'll never know unless you ask... and, as someone just said, if you tell them it's your honeymoon, their romantic streak might just come to the fore!
