Christmas gift ideas for Australian family

Christmas gift ideas for Australian family

We are traveling from Iowa to Perth for Christmas and would appreciate some gift ideas for the family we are staying with. We need several adult gifts (male/female late 40s early 50s) and their many children in the 25-18 years range. Is there any certain desirable candy that you can't already buy there? I saw someone years ago mentioned life savers or jelly belly. I also saw a football mentioned, and maple syrup. I didn't want to bring things that they already would have readily available. Thank you for any suggestions.

Items unique to your location in Iowa would probably be best appreciated. Much of what you've listed is readily available in Australia. Some examples;

Fireside Wine

Hawkeyes Jersey

Cyclones Jersey

LeClaire Whiskey

Monestary Caramels

Pocahontas Kaleidoscope

Just be aware of the duty free alcohol limits -https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Duty-Free-concessions

You don't want to be hit with taxes as your first experience in Australia!

cheers.

We've had American friends bring us their favourite football team caps that we have loved.

Great minds sweetbiscuit - that's just what I was thinking.....should be going cheap after tomorrow!

Otherwise, t-shirts and caps are always popular.

Which suburb in Perth? They might be happy with a box of UDL bourbon and cola

Is Iowa famous for anything? As something specific and special from Iowa would be nice.

You shouldn't project your dreams on someone else, onmymark.

Laura, I wouldn't bring maple syrup. Some like it, but it's not a universal thing.

Life savers and jelly bellys have been sold here for decades. Maple syrup also sold here.

Honestly - just take them out for a posh meal. No need to use up your valuable packing space on gifts. Personally I can't think of anything worse than having to graciously accept some item that I really don't want.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I figured they'd have access to most of the things I saw from older posts. They are in Mosman Park. We are only there 3 days over Christmas so going out to eat probably won't be an option. I'd really like to bring them something special, so will search for anything "Iowaish", and maybe with the caps/tshirts suggestions I could go with something from the Chicago Cubs since maybe their world series win would be International news. I'm surprised anyone would be interested in election merchandise!!!
