Driving from South Brisbane to the Bunya Mountains.

What is the best way to drive to the Bunya Mountains from Brisbane (Southside)? We have to drive at night and want as short a trip as possible as we are meeting friends for dinner and don't want them to be kept waiting too long. We have been through Jondaryn before but google maps is suggesting go as far as Dalby. Is this better?

Hi Kate,

No, from the southside go via Toowoomba then Crows Nest, 6 kilometres after Cooyar, take a left to Maindenwell on the Kingaroy/Cooyar Rd, once you reach Maidenwell take the left turn on the Maidenwell - Bunya Mountains Rd. When you reach the T intersection of Maidenwell - Bunya Moutains Rd and Bunya Mountains Rd turn right and there will be signs showing the way to the village.

The road is quite good, it is the way we travelled on our return journey, we always liked going through Kingaroy on the way up just to get the peanuts at the Kingaroy Peanut Van. We lived on the north side, and it was a good route as well.

Hope this helps.

Safe travels - Robert

We just travelled there from the Gold Coast. We travelled to Toowoomba, then towards Dalby but turned off at Maidenwell then followed the signs to the Bunyas. This is the route suggested by the Bunya Mountains Accommodation Centre who we booked through.

We will be making the drive to Bunya soon with young children so looking for places to stop and visit along the way to break up the trip. Any suggestions?
