Road trip

My Husband and I are thinking of spending 3 to 4 weeks in Mexico next January. We are thinking of flying into Cancun and then driving though the country towards Merida, Villa Hermosa, towards Oaxaca and then back towards Tulum.

We plan to rent a car. Can anyone tell me if they think this is do able and if there are places on the way that we shouldn’t miss. We have been to many of the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan.

Last November I drove around the Yucatan Peninsula solo and had no problems whatsoever. My route was:

from Palenque I visited ruins along the Rio Bec Area along the Guatemalan Border ( 3 military checkpoints) to Chetumal (Mayan Mueso) up to Tulum then to Coba, Valladolid to Ek-Balam/ Rio Lagartos, Merida to Mayapan, Kabah and Edzna..then on to Campeche...The Yucatan is probably one of the safest areas in Mexico, enjoy
