Getting married near Big Sur

Does anyone know of a cool place to get married near Big Sur? We are eloping and would like to get married outside, near but not necessarily on the beach. We would also like to rent a cottage in the area and it sounds like Pacific Grove might be nice but I was just wondering if anyone else had any ideas. Thank you.

One place that could handle your wedding with the least "hassle" would be the Park Hyatt Carmel Highlands (aka The Highlands Inn).

Further down the coast is the Ventana Inn.

Across from Ventana, and very expensive indeed, is the Post Ranch Inn.

There are also a number of parks etc where you could have an outdoor ceremony. The most accessible of these is Point Lobos, followed by Pfieffer State Park, and Julia Burns Pfeiffer State Park.

Make sure you understand what the best times are to do this. Big Sur gets all kinds of weather/fog.

I hope this helps.

Do you have someone to officiate already? Cos it may be more of a case of finding someone nearby to come out and do the ceremony. (You can get a California marriage license in the county seat, Salinas, before heading over to Big Sur.) Also, are you expecting to have guests with you, that would also need housing?

Andrew Molera State Park is pretty and has path access to beaches. There are also two restaurants with lovely decks and great views: Nepenthe and Rocky Point Restaurant.

PG is almost an hour's drive north of Big Sur. If you want a very cute cottage, right in Big Sur, try The Cottage (second choice Archie's Cottage) at The Glen Oaks (glenoaksbigsur.com). We stayed there for our anniversary, and it has a gas fireplace, fourposter bed, little kitchen, big bathroom, and very private -- at the end of a little lane from the main motel.

Congratulations, and happy elopement...
