Mexico Environmental Taxes

Is it a correct information starting October 2017 clientele at Ocean Coral suppose to pay Environmental taxes for $10 per person for a week and in 2018 it would be $20?

I have never heard of the tax being on a per week basis but have heard they will implement a $20 per person arrival tax for the two airports in the state. It is supposably to go for Environmental uses but we'll wait and see what really happens.

Here is a link towards this new taxe. It is most likely to be collected on the airplane ticket, as many other taxes. It will only apply to "non locals": tourist and travelers that comes from other states or countries. Meaning that residents of Quintara Roo will not be taxed (how will that work???? - presenting a local ID or getting reimbursed later???).

This is the message I received for a November trip

In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos (approx. $1.12 USD) per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor.

The above is correct the OP is referring to the 20 pesos per day tax imposed by Solidaridad municipality.

Just got this. While it is very inexpensive, just wish they would charge it as part of our pkg.

The following Iberostar hotels will collect a new tax of flat fee of $10.00 pesos

per room per night from Oct 01 to Dec 31, 2017 and $20.00 pesos

(1.00USD approx.) per room per night from Jan 01, 2018 and onward to all

visitors of Mexico. This tax must be paid upon arrival:

Iberostar Grand Paraiso Iberostar Quetzal.

As is evidenced here, there's a fair amount of inconsistent information and nobody knows for sure what's really happening or going to happen.

I can add to that that if you've booked through OTAs at about any point already this year, or at least through any of the ones in the Expedia family (Expedia, Hotels.com, Travelocity, Orbitz, etc), then you've almost certainly already paid 20 pesos additional per night. We've seen that they've been adding that on to people's bills since about the end of January, even though local authorities explicitly prohibited charging it for the first several months of the year due to the lack of the proper entities in place to handle the funds as per regular protocol.
