Did the crossing from Cambodia to Vietnam on a Sunday in January 2017. It was relatively easy.

We came from Mondulkiri by minibus. The minibus left at 7:45 (instead of 7). 1,5hrs later: We tried to find a motodup at the junction south of Snuol - no one there, so back on the bus to Snuol.

9:30am: The driver od our minibus arranged two motodups. They laughed at us b/c we insisted on helmets, so we made a restroom break, bargained a bit about helmets, 10 minutes later we had helmets with visors and were heading to the boarder for $5 each (you can try to get 3-4 but we were in a hurry). Paid them part in Riel, part in Dollar and got rid of our remaining 24000 Riel smoothly.

10:00am: Crossing was easy, except the fact that they took way to many pages to spread the visas, stamps etc.

10:45am: On the other side 3 guys with bikes were waiting: "One motobike $7" - we showed them a text in Vietnamese:

"Xin chào. Bạn có thể dẫn chúng tôi đến điểm đón xe bus về Tp.HCM được không ?"

"Hello Sir. Can you Please take me to the next bus station for HCM City?"

We agreed on two bikes for $10. At first it was alright. But then they stopped 5km before the first city (Loc Ninh) and told us to wait for a bus there, which is $10 p.p. - way too much. After discussing this, we decided to make them clear we paid to be taken to the Loc Ninh bus terminal. So we started walking away, they let us hop on and....

They just went 2km past the bus terminal, where another bus was standing on the roadside. They tried to collect their provision there and went on loading out our bags into the trunk of the bus. We had about enough of them so we told them to stop and went walking back towards the bus terminal.

11:30am: Just 2min later a proper bus with the destination Saigon printed on it came down the street, we waved, got in and paid 80.000 Dong each (just $7 for both of us). Estimated travel time to Saigon according to the bus assistant: 2hrs. We were on it like 3. Well, it stops a lot, but everyone has a seat, we could sit by our luggage and got some food at a break.

Time of arrival in HCMC: 2:00pm

First lesson: Bargain!

Second lesson: Don't fall for their trick with organizing a bus for you, it's a rip off, insist on being taken to the bus terminal (Bên xe) in Lôc Ninh.
