Restaurants near the Kempinski San Lawrenz

Does anyone have any recommended restaurants with 30 minutes walk of the Kempinski? We'll eat at the hotel a couple of times no doubt and maybe a trip into Victoria but some local places would be great.

Thanks,

Trevor

There are 2 I know about the 1st being Tatitas in San Larenz Square (left fro your hotel) which is very good. The other is right from your hotel which I think is called Jeffries but which I have not tried. There may also be a Football club serving snacks and some local dishes. You can also get reasonably priced lunch and snacks from the cafes at Dwerja Bay which although walkable from the hotel is down a very steep hill and I found the ascent challenging :). You could also take a taxi to Victoria for a better selection of restaurants and bars. The restaurants at the Kempinski are very good too as is their room service.

The hotel Spa is the best that I have tried !!

If you are in the main square of San Lawrenz facing the church, there is an excellent restaurant to the right of the church, don't know the name, but it may be the one to which Tripalot refers.

Again Tripalot refers to Jefferies restaurant, turn left out of the Hotel, take the right turn and walk passed the craft centre and Jefferies is on the right hand corner of the next junction (about a 15 minute walk). There is also another restaurant on the opposite side of the road to Jefferies. Apart from the local football club, nothing else that I can think of in the vicinity.

Hi Trevor,

My parents live in San Lawrenz, and have just told me that they are digging up the road (again!) just outside the Kempinski and on St. Lawrenz square, which results in Tatitas restaurant on the square has closed. Also, the guy who leased Jeffrey's, can't remember his name, has moved on, so it is interesting to see what his replacement will do to the restaurant and the food. But it is worth a try, so turn right when out if the hotel and head towards Victoria. It is max. 10 mins walk.

However Gozo has an amazing public transport system for such a small island, the buses are regular and cheap, so I would suggest heading to Xlendi (Ta Karolina), Victoria or even It-Munn at Mgarr habour.

Finally, my parents regularly have the Sunday brunch at the Kempinski and tells me it is great!

Hope you have a nice stay on Gozo.

Best

Thanks Louise...

We got back today so missed your message. You're right about the main street and square in San Lawrenz, must be really difficult for your parents and all the other residents - its a complete mess and I doubt if it will be sorted much before the summer.

'Jeffrey's' has downsized considerably as 'Jeffery's Cafe' opposite to where it was. The food is OK but its a little cramped. An Italian restaurant was in the process of opening up on the old site just as I was leaving.

We ate in Jeffries last year and thought it was excellent. The food was really good, with large portions, lively atmosphere, and the service was great.

Whilst the food in the Kempinski was well presented and very good, it was extremely expensive and the portions were TINY - my risotto main course was smaller than the starter sized portion I get in my local Italian restaurant.

Tatitas is temporarily closed while they continue major work around the square and along the main road. It is very difficult to walk there at present from the Kempinski, quite dangerous after dark due to the state of the road.
