Help with Knokke-Heist Itinerary

Anyone have any suggestions for an itinerary to the Knokke-Hiest Area in October? We are staying there but want to see much more. Day trips? Would the trains be really expensive? What to see/ what not to see?

We have yet to book flights - should we fly from the US to Amsterdam and take a train to this area or should we fly from Us to Amsterdam to Brussels then take a train? What easier? More cost effective? I have never taken a train in this part of the world! There are 6 people in our party. Is Paris from this area practical. We thought we might travel there at the end of our trip and leave from Paris to US?

Any suggestions or help would be greatly apprecaited.

You can go from AMS Schiphol to Knokke by train with 2 changes, at Antwerp and Ghent (total travel time 3h42). It takes longer - over 4 hours, but with only 1 change - if you go via Brussels, which is probably much the same time as (including how long you have to allow for the transit at the airport) but less hassle than flying from AMS to BRU and then taking the train into Brussels and then from there to Knokke.

Knokke is on the railway line between the coast and Brussels (passing through Brugge and Ghent on the way, both good destinations for day trips), which takes 1h23. From Bruxelles-Midi it takes 1h22 to Paris, but you must book Thalys in advance, see www.thalys.com. So it is certainly feasible to travel from Knokke to Paris at the end of your trip.
