Visit for the day from Zeebrugge?

Hi, We dock on cruise ship in Zeebrugge at the end of May next year and the cruise ship offers a free shuttle to Blankenberge. Is it a nice walk round or should we head to Bruges instead? I am taking my elderly mum and mother in law so don't want to spend too much time travelling - just fancy some nice shops, cafe and a Belgium Chocolate / Waffle shop!

Hi there,

Nothing in Blankenberge to interest you both. There are some shops but not very good. The bus drops you off at the side of the rail station. The rail service to Brugge is hourly and takes about 15 minutes. When arriving at Brugge there is an elevator and a lift from the platform down to the main concourse. As you get out of the railway station (and immediately to your left) there are any number of buses travelling to Brugge Town Square. You can purchase a return ticket from the kiosk before boarding the bus. Its about a 5 to 7 minute bus ride. There are lots of shops, small cafes, chocolate shops etc. One tip, don't leave it until the last train to get back to Blankenberge, on arrival there is inevitably a queue waiting for the shuttle bus which may prove difficult for your relative. I hope this info assists.

Hi we too have just done a cruise and the cruise trip was 80 Euros each to Brugge so we opted for a day in blankenberge. we go to Brugge a lot on the P & O ferry so we decided to go to Blankenberge instead. The train from Blankenberge to Brugge is only a few Euros, but you could be pushed for time. However Blankenberge is a hidden gem. we loved it and have just booked a hotel to go back.

Hope this helps.

Have to disagree with #11 especially as no specific interests have been mentioned so it's impossible to rule anything out, but in any case the question asked at #8 was what there was to do in ZEEBRUGGE, not Blankenberge! Where it sounds as though the opinion given relates only to the immediate area of Blankenberge railway station.

At this time of year, Blankenberge has the sand sculpture festival, which is held not far from the Sea Life Centre (same Coast Tram stop), see http://www.zandsculptuur.be/index.asp?taal=en

I would recommend to go to Knokke or Brugge instead. Choose Knokke if you want to enjoy the beach, Brugge if you are into culture. In Blankenberge there is nothing to see or to do, restaurants are of poor quality, as well as the shops.

Blankenberge is a lovely place to visit especially as you don't want a long journey, great shops stunning beach,

I was there two years ago and returning this April, it's far enough from the ship to have a wander.
