Trip to Norway
Save

Hi guys, I hope to seek advice here. I'm planning to do a Norway trip to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary.

1. I'm planning to do the Hurtigruten cruise but only 1 way. I'm trying to think which is a better journey (north bound or south bound)? The north bound journey have 1 more day, but are there more things to see for £200?

2. We hope to try out king crab. Would Kirkenes be the best place to do this?

3. We hope to try dog sledding and snow mobiling too. So far the prices that I see are pretty expensive. Could I get some advice on what's the best cost options for this?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

At what time of the year do you want to do this journey?

oh yes.. the dates..

The idea is to fly in from the UK on 6th March into Oslo, then fly to Kirkenes on 7th March (Saturday). On the cruise on 9th (Monday), arrive in Bergen on Saturday, train to Oslo and then fly back to UK on Sunday.

Cheers.

I'm thinking of doing both. Catching would be an experience, definitely eating!

1) I would have done the southbound journey.

2) Kirkenes is the only place that offers a King Crab safari, so you need to spend a day there. You could also look into dog sledding and snowmobiling in Kirkenes. Once on Hurtigruten, the stops are short and any excursion tailormade and you do not have much choice but to join. Whichever solution you choose, these activities will not be cheap. Below the activities on offer in Kirkenes and for you to compare.

You might consider splitting the journey and spending a couple of nights in Tromsø (or even starting from there - would be cheaper and easier to get to than Kirkenes) - there you have a whole host of tours available - see the tourist site - visittromso.no

Round trip packages are often much better deals and the King Crab safari is only available in Kirkenes.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

Can I ask why would you suggest to do South bound journey vs North bound?

Cheers.

Because you get the Harstad-Lofoten and the coast of Helgeland during the day. That is some of the best scenery on this whole voyage. On the other hand it is no good if you want to visit Tromsø or go to North Cape. Depends on your priorities. Please study the timetable.
