Good 3-4 star all-inclusive in Vilamoura

Hi,

We are thinking of getting away to the Algarve for a week or so in October. I haven't been to Portugal before, girlfriend has so we are looking to find a decent All-Inclusive place near or at least quite close to beaches. Also, is Vilamoura a quieter resort, is there plenty bars, nightlife etc in the area? Any info would be appreciated on this resort or any other which may suit us, we are 41 & 43 so not so keen on nightclub/disco type resorts but still like to go out and have a few drinks/entertainment of an evening, thanks for any recommendations or info!

If you look down the left hand side of TA you will be able to see the reviews of hotels in Vilamoura. As I stay in private accomodation I cannot comment on the hotels but I'm sure you will find all your questions answered.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants most of which are centred around the marina.Vilamoura is an upmarket resort so you won't find loads of nightclubs, although there are a couple if you wish to do so. There is also a casino which puts on shows although I'm not sure if they will still be on in October.

I haver been visiting the area for the last 10 years with my wife and we are both in our 40s.

I'm sure you'll both enjoy.

Steve B,

thanks, i'll do a little digging around and see what i come up with, thanks again.

sunndays,

we always choose A.I. not really for the food although breakfast is great but mainly to save on the cost of drinks/snacks during the day, drinks especially if it's warm. I know that people tend to think that by going A.I. you're going to stay at the hotel the entire holiday and some actually do that which is a waste of a holiday as far as i'm concerned 'cos we like to get out and about. A.I. gives us the choice of either staying at the hotel for a meal or if we don't fancy what they have on a particular night we can then go to a restaurant and have something outside. It's good to know there's some good restaurants around anyway so thanks for your reply.

The Dom Pedro hotels in Vilamoura offer an all-inclusive program. They are around the marina which is close to the beach.

Both Dom Pedro marina and Portobelo are lovely hotels. I think they offer AI but I haven't tried it personally. As said above, it is quite cheap to eat out in the Algarve (Vilamoura slightly less so!) so you don't really find the AI option in too many places. Make sure you visit the casino for cheap drinks. You don't have to be a gambler, the bar alone is nice and offers amazing prices for beer an cocktails!

You have probably booked by now but I would advise not to go all-inclusive. We, like you, often travel all-inc but never to Vilamoura. There are so many good restaurants to choose from in the town that we prefer to go B&B, we get our drinks from the supermarket for during the day (supermarket is in town centre and not unreasonable prices and many better hotels have fridges) and then to eat out each evening. It is one of the few places we do this rather than all-inclusive but it is so easy to walk to over 100 restaurants of different quality, food types and prices that we would strongly recommend you do this. Just look for a hotel in the resort centre. The Dom Pedros(3), Crowne Plaza and Lake Resort are all good but Tivoli Marinotel is the best of them all if you can afford it.

Thanks for the replies folks! We have booked our break now ClareBarrow but we've decided on Torremolinos in the Costa del Sol. We will be in Tenerife in February so next summer is still open to us. We have said that instead of Majorca (we've been the last 6 summers to Majorca) we do want to try Portugal so i think this'll happen. We have taken your advice and when we do book Portugal we'll look at the Hotels you've mentioned as well as other recommendations also, thanks again for the reply.
