Kilkee has a really nice beach and it is a lively resort town, although slightly past its heyday.

I would consider Lahinch as an alternative, you are very close to many interesting day trips and you have:

Most of Limerick decamps to Kilkee over the summer...

I've never really been there nor has hubby (our kids are deprived!!).

But apparently all of the youth hangs out and poses (i.e what they do in Limerick on a Saturday afternoon, except with a hint of sea air!!). There's also tennis and horse riding.

I would also go with Lahinch!

there is also an indoor swimming pool if the weather does not oblige.

Here are a list of activities for Kilkee. It has one of the safest beachs in the West. Surfing, canoeing, etc www.nevsailwatersports.com

Munster Rugby camp in Kilkee in early July www.munsterrugby.ie/7768.php

Lean to snorkel or scubadive www.oceanlife.ie

Kilkee is a nice town and very safe environment for you kids and the nicest place when the sun is shining.

This is a proof of the theory, Kilkee is a Limerick favourite, Lahinch is a Clare favourite.

Lightblue and Bannergirl might chime in to vote at some stage.

Either way - they are both in Clare, so all's good:)

My teenage memory of Kilkee is being screamed at by an oversized middle aged angry man...in the wrong.

I liked both villages and they are both in a great location for day trips. The difference to me was that Lahinch seemed to have waves for surfing but the water in Kilkee was calm. Kilkee seemed more like a "beach town" than Lahinch.

I'm going to buck the trend from a Limerick point of view. I don't like Kilkee, Lahinch is nicer. I don't go to either very often and have no connection in either. I prefer West Cork.
