You can either take the bus or a combination of bus and train.
The bus will be cheapest.
www.buseireann.ie take a look at the journey planner.
The length of the journey really depends on a number of factors:
- Amount of traffic: if you leave at rush hour in Dublin it will take longer. If you arrive into Limerick at rush hour, it will take longer
- The actual time between the time you arrive in Limerick and the next Shannon Bus (you will rarely have to wait more than 30 minutes.)
- The route taken by the Shannon Bus you take. Some go straight to Shannon while others go via Sixmilebridge in Co. Clare
Alternatively, you can get a train from Heuston Station in Dublin to LImerick Train Station (same building as Limerick Bus Station) and then get a bus to Shannon.
For comfort, take the train. For convenience and economy, take the bus.
