Flying out of Shannon Airport

Hi, our Shannon --> Boston flight leaves at noon, and wondering how early we need to arrive at the airport if returning a car. We will be wrapping up our visit in Galway and trying to decide whether we should spend the last night there, or get lodging in Shannon the night before we leave.

When ? As in during the height of busy summer tourist season or more quiet January. Day of the week ?

Then I would say 2.5-3 hrs including rental car return.

There is a hotel right across the entrance to the front door of the airport if you did chose to stay close, and you could return your car the night before then just walk across the street.

In May we took the same flight on a weekday. We spent the night before in Ennis which is a lovely town. We left Ennis at 8am, returned our car and had time for a leisurely breakfast at the airport before our flight. On a weekend during busy tourist time you will want to pay attention to the advice to plan on arriving 2.5-3 hours before departure.

We gave ourselves 3 hours and had time to relax and shop at the duty free shop. Remember you will have to go through two security checkpoints including the U.S. preclearance.

Five of us flew out on the four airlines offering service on a Saturday in early July. Aer Lingus is the only one of the four that would be handling passengers other than on the one flight to the US at that time. American, United and Delta were all well staffed at check in. Security was very quick and US Customs Pre-Clearance was a breeze. Other than the fact you need to clear pre-clearance an hour before your flight, it would not take much time. Walking into the airport 2.5 hours ahead of time should give you plenty of time. It's a nice small airport.
