Shannon will be my base for three days (husband is working there - no choice!). I'd like to use a hackney service to some of the more 'local' places we're going: Dromoland Castle, Ballyhannon House, Craggaunowen, Bunratty and Lough Gur. Is there a hackney service anyone can recommend? Is there a reason I should stick with taxi's instead? I won't be driving.

What is the difference between a taxi and a hackney? I thought it was the same thing.

I've read a hackney is more like an Uber. They quote a fee upfront and don't charge by the km. There is no fee for just getting into a hackney like there is a taxi. Am I using the wrong terminology? Are they called something else?
