Shannon Airport to Clifden - Clifden to Lisdoonverna

We first-timers already booked our 6-day minivan trip and hotels -Aug 3-9, 3 couples (66 yr old parents and two kids (42, 44 and spouses) and need help with days 1 and 2. Two will split driving.

Can you pls estimate driving time Airport (flt from Pennsylvania arrives 9:00 am) to Galway and Galway to Clifden (N59)Abbeyglen Castle Hotel -our 1st nite?

Day 2 - Clifden same rt59 to Galway or rt336 at Maam Cross to Inveran to Galway and N67 to Ballyvagen and on to Sheedy's at Lisdoonverna - which rt pls and estimated time differences?

We hope to relax in a Doolin Pub before bed!

Could we hope to see the Cliffs late afternoon before Doolin or not 'til AM on our way to the Killimer Ferry and Dingle at Benners for our 3rd night?

We know this is ambitious - it's also living our dream to treat out kids to 6 nites in Ireland - better than not going at all!

Good news - the other 3 days are less mileage (Dingle to Killarney Towers; Killarney to Cork (Imperial); Cork to Bunratty Castle Hotel - then 11:30 am flt home.

Thanks in advance for all help!

Shannon to Galway = 55 miles. Galway to Clifden = 50 miles. Each leg of the trip should take a little over an hour, not allowing for stops. If you are stopping in Galway, allow for the fact that traffic can be sluggish.

Day 2 - Clifden same rt59 to Galway or rt336 at Maam Cross to Inveran to Galway and N67 to Ballyvagen and on to Sheedy's at Lisdoonverna - which rt pls and estimated time differences?

Clifden to Galway via Inveran = nearer 60 miles, say 1.5 hours. Galway to Ballyvaghan = 30 miles, about 40 minutes and a further 10 miles or 15 minutes to Lisdoonvarna. Route is via the N18 from Glway to Kilcolgan and the via the N67 to Lis.

Could we hope to see the Cliffs late afternoon before Doolin or not 'til AM on our way to the Killimer Ferry and Dingle at Benners for our 3rd night?

I cannot see any probems seeing the Cliffs on the day you travel from Clifden to Lis. You could easily be in Lis by lunchtime and vist the Cliffs in the afternoon.

Abbeyglen Castle Hotel -our 1st nite?

The Abbebglen is a lovely hotel. You will enjoy it.

There are some wonderful thing to see in Clifden if you have the time.

Alcock & Brown made the historic landing near Clifden

Day 2 - Clifden same rt59 to Galway or rt336 at Maam Cross to Inveran to Galway and N67 to Ballyvagen and on to Sheedy's at Lisdoonverna

If you have time on day 2, you should consider the Glifden - Galway via Roundstone. Great scenery.

We hope to relax in a Doolin Pub before bed!

Roadford Restaurant is excellent.

WOW - Domhnall and Wexford-Men - we are thankful for your time and help!

Day 3 is Lisdoonvarna Sheedy's to Dingle Benners Hotel.

Do you and anyone reading this agree with driving thru Kilrush, crossing the Killimer/Talbert Ferry, R69 to Tralee, R86 to Camp?

Remembering, pls, that we're in a VW Caravelle minivan, do you recommend at Camp that we take R86 thru Anascaul or R560 over Connor Hill to Dingle?

What is your estimated driving time for our Day 3, including the ferry crossing?

We'll be thanking you again while we're enjoying seeing the Western and Southwestern Ireland that is so beautiful in photos!

Your sons will have had two days of driving under their belt, so if they feel confident about the situation, and the weather is good (no fog, heavy rain), the Connor Pass road will give you some great views. The way is well-marked past Tralee.

Here's what the "worst" parts of the pass look like:

And here are the views you get in return:

If the weather is poor, or you don't have the stomach for the pass, you'll want to take the southerly route along Dingle Bay.
