Need traveling time advice

We are going to be traveling from Carlow town leaving early in the morning and we hope to stop in Kilkenny for a few hours, make a stop at the Rock of Cashel and end up in Kinsale late afternoon. Will this work or is it too much driving in one day?

Thanks in Advance.

Your overall mileage would be about 140 miles which is OK in a single day. You can travel on motorway between Carlow and Kilkenny and for most of the route between Kilkenny and Kinsale via Cashel - this should make for fairly easy driving. You will need a little dexterous navigation to get from Kilkenny to the M8 motorway which leads to Cashel.

Overall driving time should be about 3.5 hours, obviously not allowing for stops and assuming you bypass Cork City (by taking the Jack Lynch Tunnel and the South Ring) rather than travelling via the centre of the town.

This drive time should allow you to spend a reasonable amount of time in both Kilkenny and at the Rock of Cashel. For more details on a route, distances and times involved, see www2.aaireland.ie/routes_beta
