Ring Of Kerry

Is it possible to do the Ring of Kerry trip in one day, we will be staying in Kenmare and can be up and on the road nice and early, plus we are a group of three all in our 70's so we will not be doing a lot of walking, more just to see the sights.

Yup. We got pointers from our b&b hosts and had a VERY enjoyable day doing just that.

Even if you're not an avid walker there are some lovely spots "off the ring" where you can park the car and take in the views.

These include the following:

Rossbeigh Beach - near Glenbeigh. The car park is facing the sea. Spectacular.

Valentia Island - accessible via a bridge at Portmagee. You don't even have to get out of the car to see Valentia if you don't want to. The Slate Grotto is lovely

Skelligs Chocolate and St Finian's Bay. www.skelligschocolate.com St Finian's Bay is about 100 yards West of Skelligs Chocolate and you can park and see the ever changing seascape. Skelligs Chocolate have a fabulous visitor centre and cafe (and they have bathroom facilities). Their chocolate is simply divine.

Ballinskelligs Bay is also beautiful. The car park is hidden by dunes BUT its only 20 yards or so to the beach which has its own castle. Google image it.

One assumes you will also make the time to see Muckross Gardens (if not the house) and Torc Waterfall. Torc is a 5 minute walk up a hill but if you take it slowly its not too taxing.

Enjoy your holiday.

You've picked a fine accessible town in pretty Kenmare for a nicely paced very satisfying Ring tour day. I would be surprised if the norm for visitors on a typically fixed schedule tended to more, though it would be easy to spend a glorious week in a more leisurely fashion and never come close to running out of wonderful options. The good news is you may return whenever you please to relax a bit more in your favorite spots.
