Help for planning a trip without a car?

My friend and I were originally thinking of flying into Cork and basing ourselves in Kenmare so we can do the ring of Kerry, Dingle and perhaps do a day trip to Skellig Michael.

However, we are both 20 year olds (We're going in September and I'll be missing my 21st birthday by a month) so we can't rent a car in Ireland. Does this mean we'll have to move our base from Kenmare to Killarney so it's easier for us to take a guided tour of the Ring of Kerry and for transport to other areas of Kerry? This is such a bummer as we were really hoping to be able to be flexible and go around to different places without being restricted to public transport. Your help is much appreciated :)

Hi, you can get all the tours in Kenmare as well, try this site www.kenmarecoachandcab.com

They are very helpful. There are a couple of more people who do tours but cant find address at moment....

Great thank you both!

I emailed the Kenmare Coach and Cab company so hopefully I'll get a response. If you remember any other companies that would be great. I tried searching for reviews for Kenmare Coach and Cab and for other tours operating out of Kenmare but I wasn't able to find any.

www.buseireann.ie for bus timetable.

You will be limited with a public service from Tralee-Dingle so plan accordingly.

Personally without a car I would opt for Killarney. You have a greater choice of tours and better public transport links. Plus at 20yr old you will find a bit more life after dark. If you do opt for Kenmare then you have access to the limited service between there and Killarney.

I think we're leaning that way too -it just seems easier to do Killarney. It's a bummer though as we wanted to do the Ring of Beara or Dingle as well and those are too far from Killarney. Maybe we could travel to Dingle from Killarney and then take the train up to Dublin instead?

I'd second Tony's suggestion...Killarney is a better fit without a car IMO...

you can take tours of the beara and dingle and ring of kerry from Kilarney so no need to move to dingle as such

Thanks for the links! I didn't know there were trips from Killarney to Dingle so they were very helpful :)
