accommodation

Hi

We are a kiwi & a aussie (oziwis) driving around Ireland for 2 weeks in early May. We don't want to book accom. before we go, just take it as it comes. Is this advisable?.

Also we will be using the ferry from Scotland, bringing the car & are looking for somewhere to stay in Belfast. Any ideas?

Thanks

Oziwi

Have you confirmed whether there are any restrictions on taking the car from Scotland to Ireland? If it's a rental car it might be worth checking. If it's your own car, phone your insurance company and check if they restrict usage (or withdraw cover) in Northern Ireland.

Hi

Yes most rental companies don't have too much of an issue. They do charge extra & written permission is required.

We are thinking of now hiring cars in different countries though this is more expensive but may be less hassle?

Anybody know if using the ferries is much of a drama?

We are going back from Rosslare into Wales so will need to hire another car there.

Thanks for all input

Much appreciated

It makes sense to keep the same car if you can. Actually using the ferries is simple - drive on, drive off. I've never used one with a hire car so I'm not sure how you would advise the registration number to them if you were booking tickets in advance (or even if you need to). If the journey is relatively long (anything over four hours perhaps) you might want to check the prices of day cabins - it's always nice to have somewhere to rest and freshen up (shower and change maybe) if the ferry journey is at the end of a lengthy drive.

Was in Downpatrick for St Patrick's day the history there is amazing great great place to visit stayed at The River Mill b&b Co Down for a night was amazed at the setting and the history of the restored building, very resonable price too . There are good places to visit like the nearby Mourne mountains. Belfast and Dublin are a short drive away and there is good bus service from Downpatrick
