Trip Report 29th March - 3rd April 2016

Day One - Tuesday

Myself and my daughter left home at 6am to catch a train to St Pancras. Had breakfast at the station then straight through security without any hold-ups and on to the Eurostar. Left bang on time and we arrived at Disney at 2pm. We’d booked the Disney Express Luggage Service so we got our tickets on the train. Handed the cases in and literally ran from the station to the park. First glimpse of Main Street made me go all soppy. Love it so much and it was just so fantastic to be back!

We had arrived just in time for Minnie’s Little Spring Train which we watched and also joined in with the dancing in Central Plaza. The sun was shining and everyone was smiling. Gorgeous atmosphere to start our trip.

Once the parade was finished we headed through the castle and checked out the Christmas shop. Then we headed to Space Mountain. This was closed when we visited last July so it was the first time on it. Only a ten minute wait and we absolutely loved it. It immediately made up for the disappointment of having BTM closed this time round.

We went to some more shops and bought ponchos because the forecast wasn’t good for the rest of the week. Took lots of photos and then headed to IASW which looks brilliant after the refurb. Sung along all the way round.

By then we thought we should find a place for Magic on Parade. Last summer people were finding spots an hour and a half before it started but this time round we could easily get to the front at 5pm. While we were waiting the heavens opened and we had torrential rain. Good job we got those ponchos. But Disney magic shone on us and the rain stopped about two minutes before the parade started.

We adore the parade and try to see it every day. It was just as special as I remembered. Once it was over lots of people started to leave the park. We are more hard-core so walked straight on to Indiana Jones and Pirates without any queues at all!

We called in at City Hall to book the guided tour of the park for Saturday. Although I had booked most of our restaurant reservations we didn’t have anything planned for that night, so I asked if there was any chance that there was a table in Inventions. He had a table left for 9.45pm which was fine for us.

More shops and rides including Buzz and Space Mountain again. Watched the first part of dreams from Main Street but had to leave before it had finished to get to Inventions. We had a great time there. We met Eeyore, Goofy, Mickey, Donald and Pluto. Got loads of photos and autographs and plenty of hugs too.

Left there at about half eleven and started the walk back to Santa Fe. It was nowhere near as far as I thought it was going to be, although it was pretty deserted at that time of night. We struggled to find reception in the dark, and when we got there there was nobody about apart from a lovely chap behind the desk call Cauvin. We checked in and when we said we had no idea where we were going, he walked with us to our block and made sure we were settled in our room which was really helpful. Room was absolutely fine. Nothing fancy but clean and tidy and perfect for what we wanted. Set the alarm and fell into bed.

That was nice of Cauvin to escort you to your room! The Santa Fe can be a bit of a maze in the dark until you become familiar with it. Which block were you in? Good that the rain stopped for DMOP, and you were also able to book Inventions.

Thanks everyone. Yes Figgy we were really grateful to Cauvin for his help. We were in Luigi block 14 which was ideal for us because it was closest to the park. We had only booked a standard room so am I right in thinking we got an upgrade here?

Here's Day Two - Hope I'm not being too wordy. I do waffle on a bit!!!

Day Two – Wednesday

We had decided before we arrived that we weren’t going to bother with breakfast at the hotel. We don’t eat much first thing anyway and I’d heard it could be quite manic so we gave it a miss.

It was raining heavily so we got the ponchos out again and set off walking to the park. We were waiting for them to open the gates at 8am and went straight to meet our favourite characters Chip and Dale. We were first in the queue because most people head for Mickey and Minnie or Pluto and Goofy just as you get into the park. Got some lovely soggy pictures then went on the Carousel and Tea Cups. They were so quiet the cast members were begging us to stay on the rides!

Milly wanted to try to do the Princess Pavilion in the hope of meeting Rapunzel so I waited in the queue while she hit the shops to stay out of the rain. Started waiting at about 9.30 and finally got out tickets just before eleven. Got a slot for 3.15pm. Machines weren’t working so well and almost everyone needed the cast members to help them with the touch screens and scanning their tickets. I can’t help thinking it was much quicker last year when they just sat behind a desk and handed you the tickets!

Met up with Milly again and we went back to Main Street to meet Minnie. She was in her spring dress and was looking gorgeous. But we were soaking wet and wrapped up in ponchos so the pictures weren’t all that glamourous! Still good fun though!

Then a couple more rides, and a wander round the castle. We had to meet Winnie the Pooh that day because Milly was Disney Bounding as him, in yellow jeans and a bright red baggy jumper. She got a great response from him when he saw what she was wearing!

We had lunch booked at the Blue Lagoon which was just lovely. We got there a bit early and asked if there was any chance of a waterside table and they said yes, so that was great. Food and service were spot on and it was so nice to be out of the rain for a while!

Left there and caught Minnie’s Train again. It was so wet there were no dancers in front of the train this time, but the flash mob still happened. Walked straight onto Teacups and Carousel again. Then it was time for our PP reservation. We saw Aurora who wouldn’t have been our choice but she was still lovely and got some nice pictures.

After that I made Milly go on Phantom Manor for her first time. She had refused to go on it with me last year. I thought it was great but she absolutely hated it. Poor girl, I’m so cruel!

A few more rides then time to wait for the parade. We had been hoping to see the Mary Poppins show first but it was cancelled due to the rain. It was while we were waiting that disaster struck and Milly fell and hurt her ankle. As I've said in another post, the cast members at the Disneyland Hotel were amazing and really helped us out, but it did put a stop to the rest of the day and we were back in our hotel by seven so didn’t get to see Dreams. Got ice from the bar for Milly’s foot and watched the Disney channel before bed.

Hi. Glad you enjoyed your meal in Blue Lagoon, it is a lovely restaurant. Shame you had such a wet day. We were all very sorry to hear that Milly hurt her ankle - adding the link for your thread about that

What is the Mary Poppins show? My daughter loves MP and I didn't know there was something dedicated to one of our favorite movies of all times!

Thanks for your report, we leave Monday. Am also worried about weather! But sounds like you managed through it....

Hello again. Sorry it's taken me so long to get round to this, but here's the next instalment.

Day Three – Thursday

We woke up bright and early because Milly was still keen to make the most of her time at Disney, even with a dodgy ankle. She could hobble about but it was obvious she wasn’t going to be able to walk from the Santa Fe to the park so we headed over to catch the shuttle bus at about twenty to eight. There were loads of people already waiting and when the bus arrived it was a bit of a rugby scrum to get on. All the time I was terrified Milly was going to get shoved. Can’t say it was a pleasant experience, and if it wasn’t necessary I would always choose the walk instead.

We got to the park and the first thing we did was go straight to the wheelchair hire. It did feel a bit over-dramatic, but there was just no way Milly was going to be able to walk far so we decided it was the best option to be able to carry on with our trip. The chap we spoke to was really helpful and we chose to hire the chair for two days so that I could push her back to the hotel that evening instead of catching the bus again. All very straightforward and we were in the park proper but about ten past eight.

First stop was another meeting with Chip and Dale. Because it was raining so hard, they were tucked away near Casey’s Corner under the awning and not busy at all. Next we did some EMH rides, like Buzz and Teacups. The rain wasn’t letting up so we decided we would take our chances in the Princess Pavilion queue again. Normally they only like one person from a party to queue to save space but I explained Milly couldn’t really do much on her own that morning and they let us both wait. It all seemed to work much better, and we were done by about 10.15am with 11 o’clock reservations.

Quick go on the Carousel and a mooch about some shops and it was time to head back to PP. This time we were lucky and got to meet Rapunzel who was lovely. Got some good pics on my phone and also on Photopass.

As we were leaving we almost ran into the dancers from Goofy’s Garden Party. They all had umbrellas and were heading backstage. I’m not sure if the show had gone ahead or been cancelled because of the weather.

Next was our lunch reservation at the Auberge. We had a lovely time there, as always. This time we were seated in the room to the left as you go in, furthest away from the fireplace and dance floor. It did feel a little more claustrophobic here than the other end of the restaurant. We met Aurora, Cinderella and Prince Charming and of course Suzy and Perla. Unfortunately Snow White had missed us but being two adults, I didn’t want to make a fuss about it and we’d loved hearing her chatting with the children on tables near us. As we were paying Milly said to me that she just wanted to take a quick picture of Snow White before we left. Our waiter heard and insisted on going to get her immediately so we could meet her properly before we left. I thought that was really sweet. And Snow herself was absolutely gorgeous (so much more friendly than the one we’d met last year…)

As we were leaving Salva the lovely waiter we had there last year spotted us. I couldn’t believe he remembered us, but he came rushing over and was chatting to us like old friends. Even remembered Milly’s name and told the other staff we were his lovely guests from last summer. We said we were coming again for lunch on Sunday before going home and he said he would make sure we were at one of his tables and he would look after us. So sweet.

We left the Auberge and the rain had just got worse. The park was practically deserted. We walked straight onto Indiana Jones (we were soaked anyway, just from walking around) then went on Pirates and had an entire boat to ourselves in was that quiet!

More rides and shops and then took our place for DMOP. The Mary Poppins show was cancelled again because of the weather and the parade had some elements missing but still great fun to sing and clap along to.

We spent the evening strolling around the shops and doing repeated rides on Space Mountain. Then we decided that we would get a spot for Dreams. Because the weather was so miserable people hadn’t started taking their places so early, so with about half an hour to go we managed to get right to the front! Absolutely love Dreams and this was the first time we’d been front row for it. It was excellent. After that we made our soggy way back through the village and back to the hotel for hot baths and bed.
