Accomodation for Gäubodenvolksfest

I'm planning to visit Straubing in 2017 for the Gäubodenvolksfest, but I'm having trouble finding accomodation. It's over 11 months away but everywhere appears to be booked out! Has everyone else already booked the accomodation and I'm too late, or am I looking too early? My plan now is to wait and see if any Airbnb places pop up over the next few months.

Does anyone have experience booking accomodation for the festival?

Thankyou, in that case I'll keep an eye on things.

Straubing is a town of less than 50,000 people, with around 3,000-3,500 hotel, guesthouse, camping etc overnight visitor beds. Around 1.2 million people attend Gäubodenvolkfest each year, so beds are at a premium. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the overnight accommodation in the town has already been booked out for next August 11 to 21.

Contact the town's tourist office and see if they have any suggestions on places to stay. www.straubing.de/de/tourismus/uebernachtung/

Otherwise I'd be looking at places like Regensburg (25 - 30 minutes by train), Plattling/Deggendorf (15 - 20 minutes by train) The little town of Bogen (10 - 15 minutes by train) or maybe the very quiet back waters of places like Geiselhöring and Perkham (again accessible by train) A bayern ticket or a Servus ticket are the cheapest tickets for all these places if there is a group. https:/…index.shtml

If you have access to a car, then consider places like St Englmar, Viechtach, Landau an der Isar, Worth an der Donau, Mitterfels, Falkenstein, all of which are within a 30 minutes drive of Straubing.
