Brewery / Beer Garden on the Hill?

I am trying to remember the name of a great beer garden / brewery that was a climb up the hill but had great beer and amazing views of the town. Any ideas???

This describes nearly every hill in Bamberg.

Have a look on the box "Beer cellars" in the right column if any of the names sounds familiar to you.

Well great beer is being served in all beer gardens in Bamberg ;-)

Up the hill, there are three different ones, and I am pretty sure you refer to the first one:

1) Spezial-Keller (or "Spezi-Keller"), they serve lightly smoked beer, the wheat beer is legendary. I am sure that you mean this because it offers by far the best views of the old town and the cathedral. http://tinyurl.com/8g7w4hh

2) Wile Rose Keller, also on Stephansberg, a little further up the hill, the largest beer garden in Bamberg and also a very good one, though without the views. http://tinyurl.com/8mc3wtr

3) Greifenklau, located in a somewhat hidden place (you do not see the beer garden from the outside) on Kaulberg and less well-known than the other two but also worth a stop. The view is not comparable to Spezi-Keller but you see the Altenburg which is also quite nicce. http://tinyurl.com/8jr9hsp

Just for the record: the beer gardens in Bamberg are called "beer cellar" - what is of quite some importance for the locals! Originally, sand and gravel were digged out of the hills so that tunnels arose. The breweries later came up with the idea that these cellars would be ideal storage places to keep thei beer chilled in summer, so it was only a small step to sell beer directly ON these cellars. Pros!

It is "Wilde Rose", not "Wile Rose"
