travel in Bamberg

We are coming from Munich to Bamberg by S Bahn. We have a "Lander" Ticket good for all local travel so I think that should cover buses too. Does anyone know??

Also what bus or subway do you take from the train station to get to the Tourism Information Center? We want to take the beer tour and need to go buy tickets from them.

The ticket you will be using is the Bayern Ticket (which one of several Länder tickets available for different Länder). There is no S-Bahn going from Munich to Bamberg. You will take regional trains (RE, RB). With the BayernTicket you can use local transport in any Bavarian town as well. So buses in Bamberg are free of additional charge. The tourist information is a 20 min walk from the train station. There is no subway in Bamberg. You could take a bus, but you would have to change lines, so that would take about the same amount of time. Walking through Bamberg is actually quite enjoyable.

Perfect thanks!

You're right it is a RE Train! Sorry so stressed with the Lufthansa strike. Good to hear the Bayern Ticket will work in town.

We will have our luggage but I guess that's normal to see people hauling a suitcase down the street!

Bus network Bamberg

Tourist information is between the stops Schillerplatz and Schranne. But Lange Str., Schönleinsplatz and the ZOB (central bus station) are options as well.

Bamberg is great for walking. And they must have luggage lockers at the train station.

If there is some reason that you really need to take your luggage with you and it is heavy to carry, you can take a taxi. The distance is short and will not cost too much. Regards, Gary

Why don't you go to your Hotel first, drop your bags and then get your tickets??

1. Yes, there are lockers at the station, at platform 1.

2. Nearest stop from tourist information is Schranne.

3. Walking in Bamberg is generally nice, but the station is not in the most beautiful part. It is totally safe but the walk to tourist information is not very idyllic until you cross the canal.

4. Only with town busses you have to change lines to get there, not with regional busses which are even faster but not run as frequently as town busses. You could take busses 978, 983, 989, 991 e.g.

5. There are two bus stops at Bamberg station which can be quite confusing! Regional busses stop directly at the forecourt of the station building - another plus of them. For town busses, if you come out of the station you have to cross the traffic lights and then turn to the right into Ludwigstraße and walk 50m.
